Receiving the \u201cVanguard\u201d designation in the ABBA is the most prestigious accomplishment a Brahman cow can achieve. Vanguard status is indicated by the symbol $ preceding a dam\u2019s name in the ABBA registry.<\/p>\n

The Vanguard program was created in 2001 by the Research and Breed Improvement Committee.<\/p>\n

In the history of the ABBA, only 16 cows have been deemed worthy of the Vanguard title. A Vanguard cow must achieve both Register of Renown and Maternal Merit status.<\/p>\n

There is only one cow in the history of the entire ABBA registry that has not only achieved Vanguard status herself, but has also produced Vanguard progeny.<\/p>\n

$JJ MISS PONCR ATA 304 produced both a Vanguard female, $JJ MS MONT CR ATA 610, as well as a Vanguard bull, (+)JJ DIDOR CR ATA 389.<\/p>\n

$JJ MISS PONCR ATA 304, the cow that The Brahman Journal has titled the \u201cQueen of the Vanguards\u201d, was bred and owned by Johnny Jefcoat, who is also the breeder of the most Vanguard Cows in the ABBA registry.<\/p>\n
