How did you get started selling branded Brahman beef? I started selling to my friends, and I liked it. I enjoy meeting new people!
What type of cattle are you using in your beef program? We use commercial crossbred and Golden certified F1 (Brahman cows x Red Angus bulls).
How do you market your branded beef operation? At the moment, we use word of mouth and Facebook @HerzogBeefLLC.
Where is your product available for sale? Currently on Facebook, and it will be available on our website soon.
What cuts do you offer? What is the most popular? Herzog Beef offers a variety of grass fed and grain finished beef cuts, including steak, round steak, lean ground hamburger, chili, stew, roast, ribs and fajita meat products. Additionally, we off er customized 1/4 and 1/2 orders for all calves processed. Ground beef and steaks are the most popular.
Are you retaining kill data to be used with other performance data in your herd? I keep records of weights, cuts and dressing percent.
Please describe the biggest challenges of owning a branded beef operation. People think we process animals personally. We take it to a Texas Department of State Health Services inspected facility. Also, people are not used to purchasing frozen beef. Most are scared. They don’t know how to thaw and cook it.
