The 2018 Florida Field Day and Heifer Sale was held Saturday, April 28 at the University of Florida Beef Teaching Unit in Gainesville, Florida.
It was a fun event for the whole family! The event had speakers, a tour of the UF beef unit, complimentary lunch, a junior meeting and heifer sale. The sale featured replacement heifers and show prospects from some of Florida’s top herds. The offering was met with enthusiasm from a large, active crowd.
The sale had 14 lots of registered brahman heifers, 3 lots of F1 heifers, and one specialty lot that offered buyers a pick of the Rocking S Ranch heifer crop.
The pick of entire Rocking S Ranch’s 2017 Spring and 2018 Fall registered calf crops was purchased for $7,700 by Mike Becker of Odessa, Florida. Rocking S Ranch is owned by Marcus and Linda Shackelford of Wauchula, Florida.
Three head of bred registered Brahman heifers averaged $6,500. The high-selling bred heifer was consigned by Kempfer Cattle Company and sold to Town Creek Cattle Company for $7,600.
Ten head of open registered Brahman heifers averaged $4,500. The high-selling heifer was consigned by Ford Farms and sold for $6,900.00 to Willie Clement of Georgia. Barthle Bros. Ranch consigned the second-high-selling open heifer, which sold for $6,400.00 to Mike Becker.
Overall the 15 Brahman lots averaged $4,815.
The 3 head of open F1 heifers averaged $2,275.00 Dave Partin consigned the high-selling F1 heifer that sold for $2,800.
The sale’s high-volume buyers were Willie Clement and Mike Becker.
