Southern Select Cattle hosted a South Poll cattle sale Dec. 6 live at Laurens Livestock in Laurens, South Carolina, and streaming online at BestCattleSales.com.
The sale offered 52 elite lots. Consignors included Bent Creek Farm, Easy E Cattle Co., Harris Homeplace Farm, Holiday Ranch, O’Neal Cattle Co., Ozark Hills Genetics, Roberts Farm, Rolling Hill Ranch, Rose Hill Farm, Sassafras Valley Ranch, Smoky Mountain South Polls and Sumners Farm. Philip Gilstrap served as the auctioneer.
“Thank you to all the bidders, buyers, consignors and supporters who helped make this year’s Southern Select South Poll Cattle Sale a tremendous success,” Paul Epting of Rolling Hill Ranch said.
Official sale averages were as follows: pairs, $14,000; bred cows, $6,583; bred heifers, $7,379; open heifers, $5,786; and bulls, $7,260. There was a tie for the high-selling lot. Lot 1 and Lot 2 both sold for $14,000. Lot 1 was a pair from Sumners Farm in Albertville, Alabama. Lot 2 was a 3-in-1 from Roberts Farm of Fort Payne, Alabama.
The Southern Select South Poll Sale was founded by Paul Epting, Ethan Foard, Brooks Dickson and Dr. Bruce Shanks—four passionate producers who saw a need for an annual sale in their region, a market outlet for existing producers and a way to bring more South Poll cattle to their area.
