Kempfer Cattle Company of St Cloud, Florida hosted the annual Florida Field Day and Florida Brahman Association (FBA) Heifer Sale on April 29, 2017.
Brahman breeders and enthusiasts from across the south turned out for the event. American Brahman Breeders Association (ABBA) and FBA leaders were in attendance, including ABBA President George Kempfer, FBA President Larry Ford and FBA Secretary/Treasurer Drew Tucker. Other special guests included Florida Cattleman’s Association President Ned Waters and Executive Vice President Jim Handley as well as the Brahman Journal editor Victoria Lambert.
The Field Day activities included an ultrasound demonstration and explanation using heifers and bulls being ultrasounded for the upcoming Carcass Contest to be held at the Florida Junior Brahman Association show on June 9-11. Ultrasound technician, Amy Perryman, did an excellent job explaining the process and involving the youth of the association.
Following the morning programs and cattle viewing, a delicious lunch of beef brisket and swamp cabbage was served, followed by homemade banana pudding.
After lunch, the sale kicked off. Chad “Cracker” Johnson was the auctioneer in front of a group of active bidders. Eleven elite lots were offered and averaged $7,564.
The high selling lot was a 2015 heifer named DEP LADY IMPRA 766, sired by DEP MANSO COUNTRY 598 and consigned by Dave and Cindy Partin. She sold for $10,200.
The second-high selling lot was KCC 620 OF 411 – 426 consigned by Kempfer Cattle Company. The top bidder had the pick out of two top-end heifers from Kempfer Cattle’s 2016 calf crop. The heifer sold for $9,000.
Overall the field day and sale were a great success. Big thanks to the Kempfer family for hosting the events as well as the FBA meeting the night before. Be sure to mark your calendar for the ABBA Membership Convention September 22-23 in Kissimmee, Florida! The hospitality of Brahman breeders in the sunshine state is second to none.
